always where the wild things are…

It is estimated that 1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a common mental health problem. 19.7% of people in the UK aged 16 and over showed symptoms of anxiety or depression. In honour of mental health awareness week here in the U.K. I figured now would be a better time than any to talk about the importance of mental health, what it really means and how you can help improve your mental state if mind.

Its very strange that mental health was such a taboo topic, it is stranger still that there is still a stigma attached to mental health, that’s its not a 'real' thing, its a weakness, that’s not as serious as other physical illnesses. Let me tell you that all of those are a load of BS. Because of this stupid stigma , we don’t see the person as a human being, who is  suffering emotionally, psychologically, and physically, but rather, as just their illness and only their illness.

Your mental health does not fucking define you.

That is why its so important to talk about mental heath, so many people suffer, a lot who stuffer in silence, when they shouldn’t have to.
As some who has suffered and occasionally still  deals with bouts of anxiety, I know how important it is  put your mental health first when necessary. It was so engrained into me that seeking professional help is a major sign of weakness. Eventually it all got too much and I told my parents and my friends how I was feeling and I got help and my life really changed for the better. The experience of  feeling mentally unhealthy is universal. Once we recognize this , we might be more willing to let someone in so we can navigate the harder times together.

My journey with my own mental health is far from over, but I have cultivated some tips that have helped me drastically.

Positivity | Try to find the positive out of each situation. Don't let  negative thoughts consume you. Don't let the negative thoughts win.

Kindness | please be kind to yourself. Negative self talk can be very destructive.

Selfishness | do what's best for you and your mental health. Cut off anything that makes you feel sad, mad or depressed.

Acceptance |Reach out for support & help. You don't have to be in this alone.

If you need more information this is a good website, I also found this helpful and informative booklet.

I hope this helped someone somewhere in anyway possible.
Stay wild x
