always where the wild things are…

I have to admit, when it comes to comparing my selves to others, I am the worst.  I am not a competitive person but sometimes it is something that cannot be helped. Comparing yourselves to others will only have a detrimental effect. No two people are the same and that really is a blessing. At the end of the day, comparing yourself to others is natural human thing but, it will also kill you. The thing about comparison is that there is never a winner, you don’t gain anything by comparing yourself to anyone else.  I have little tips and hints on how to break the never ending, damaging cycle of comparison.

Comparison is the death of joy.― Mark Twain
It is something that is easier said than done, but it can be achieved, living your life comparison free is a happy life indeed.

Firstly, remember to be grateful. I cannot stress the importance of gratitude. It is so imperative that you always focus on the good things we already have in you have in this wonderful world. If you start to feel and express gratitude for the gifts that you do have, you will shift your focus from others to yourself. Spend more of your time focusing on the positive and good in your life.

Secondly, understand your own successes. You have a unique person, who has exclusive experiences and irreplaceable gifts. You have the capacity to love, serve, and contribute. You already have been blessed with everything you need to accomplish good in your little section of the world. Find motivation in them to pursue your goals and successes further.
And never compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. –Unknown
Thirdly, healthy completion is good! There are times when competition is appropriate, but life is not race.  The idea that we need to competing against others to “win,” needs to stop. Instead appreciate   others for what they have, what they have worked hard to get, but do not contest against them in a race that they are not even racing. Compete against yourself instead.

Lastly, recognise that you are in control of your life. It is hard to resist comparing yourself to others. But you are ultimately in control of your life. You make choices to lead your life in a particular way. You make decisions that are best for you, not for anybody else. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what other people do or have. You are the one that matters in the course of your life.
Do not compare yourselves to others. Be true to who you are, and continue to learn with all you might.― Daisaku Ikeda
